I had watched Subramaniapuram over this weekend and had only one question in my mind “why did I take such a long time to watch this fantastic movie despite great reviews”.
The movie has a great mix of friendship, love and betrayal. A film arriving with little hype or fanfare proves that if packaged neatly with a concise narration can sustain the interest of the audience. The story, set in the 80s is refreshing to watch and I was quite stunned with the screenplay.
The movie which is approx 140 minutes is definitely riveting with a lot of twists / turns and realism at its best. The movie which begins with suspense is brilliantly sustained till the end. The movie is on the edge and the curiosity level of what will happen next is well managed.
The stars of the movie is definitely worth mentioning – scintillating performance by Jay (hero), sasikumar (hero’s friend / director), ganja karupu and the heroin swathi. The song kangal irandal is a treat to the ears. Kudos, also, to the art director who has brought in the feel of the 80s in all the scenes.
Subramaniapuram is a great movie, however, this is not a film for romantic buffs as its got a tragic end.

Judgment Night – 1993 film
Why am I writing about a movie which was released in 1993 today? Read the plot of the movie below to know better:
“Four friends, Ray Cochran (Jeremy Piven), Mike Peterson (Cuba Gooding Jr.), and brothers Frank (Emilio Estevez) and John Wyatt (Stephen Dorff) embark on a road trip to a professional boxing match in modern Chicago. The four set out in a lavish RV Ray is "testing out" for his business.
Stuck in a traffic jam en-route, John gets into an argument with another driver. Frustrated by the delay, Ray decides to save time and backs off the highway in search of a shortcut through a poor, residential neighborhood……”
If ppl have watched the recently released Saroja (Tamil Movie) then they would know why I am writing this blog. Saroja was an absolute rip off from Judgment Night except for the fact there is no kidnap in the English version and the friends don’t die in the tamil version.
I am definitely ok with a movie being inspired / ripped off 70% from another regional movie. However, I strongly feel credit must be given to the original movie. Whats the fun in making a movie where in someone has already thought of it. I can make millions of movies without giving credit then. It was really disturbing to know that Saroja (a movie which I was really impressed) was an inspiration from this and the fact the director never gave credit to the original version. Now, that’s what pisses me off the most.
Venkat Prabhu – if you are going to copy another movie to the Indian audience then do give credit to the original movie.

A Wednesday - Review
I don't really see hindi movies much. For those who don't know me - its just that I dont really understand the language a 100%. However, I do watch hindi movies if it has good reviews and I always watch it with friends to understand the dialogues better. As far as the reviews are concerned, I usually trust my friends at work and also few movie review sites.
I happened to see Wednesday and I loved it from beginning to end. The best thing about the movie is it doesn't have a hero, heroin, songs. Its proved to a lot of film makers in the country that as long as the script is great you wouldn't need the above.
The movie from the beginning was gripping and the climax was fantastic. The confrontation between Naseerudeen Shah and Anupham Kher was mind blowing. I especially fell in love with a line which I have to mention it here "when there is terrorist attack, we call up our friends and family, check whether they are fine, if they are we are happy and get adjusted with the attacks and go on with life" - wow!!!
The entire movie which lasted a little over 90 minutes was a great experience and I would love to see more such regional movies. If any movie has left an impact on me recently this is definitely one.

Saroja Review
Saroja Review:
Finally, finally I get to see a good movie after a long long time. The movie is racy, entertaining, gripping, funny and on the whole a very nice package. I was in love with the screenplay and the climax twist was stunning. I always have heard ppl in interviews say that climax is the most important feature of the movie as that’s what most ppl remember it for and boy oh boy the climax of this movie definitely proved it right.
The background score was great and couple of songs are nice as well. The comedy is good as well, but I guess premji can survive only with this group of ppl. The choice of characters was really good and I felt that the villain did a great job. I am amazed that we can have good movies without heroes and its definitely a good sign.
I strongly feel Venkat Prabhu will definitely make it big but again how long will he be directing with this group? How will he do with a hero oriented subject? We will have to wait and see.

Roger is BACK
Not long ago critics felt that Federer was vulnerable, beatable and some had in fact written him off. Today, however the vintage champion returned. It took Federer less than 2 hours to close the match and take home 5th straight US open title (only person to win 5 straight US and Wimbledon).
I had waited all year long to see the familiar scene of Federer falling to his knees, screaming with joy, pitching forward and then rolling over to his back, covering his face with his hands. It is something I wish to see time and again till he retires.
Federer with 13 grand slams now finds himself just one behind of Pete Sampras who has 14. This was the 1st time in 5 years Federer was without a Grand Slam title this late in the year and it is immensely satisfying for me as a hardcore fan of his to see him back winning slams.
I wish next year would be different for Fedex. I wish he would win all the 4 slams next year and I would love to see him thrash Nadal in the French Open and get that crown which has been missing for 5 years now. That’s one winning moment / celebration that I would die to see.

Dhaam Dhoom Review
Dhaam Dhoom – Review
Its been a long time since I wrote a blog as I have been really held up with a hell lot of work. I had visitors from US, UK and Singapore and the last 3 weeks has been really tough.
So I decided to go for Dhaam Dhoom hoping that it would be a nice relief. However, half way through the movie I just realized what a pathetic choice I made to watch this movie. The only good thing about the movie was Harris Jeyaraj’s music, apart from that I really can’t think of any. The plot is similar to Roja (maniratnam’s) and was handled badly.
I can totally understand that it would have been tough to complete the movie without Jeeva (who sadly passed away in the middle of the shooting). May be if he had taken the entire movie we would have had a different screenplay altogether and a different feel to it. I loved his unnalae unnalae, it was one neat movie, so I always felt that he would have given us a different feel to the movie than what is now.
I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone, its really not worth it.

Kuselan Review
The 1st thing that comes to my mind when I write my personal review of this movie is “what the hell was p.vasu thinking?”
I must say I haven’t seen the original version of this movie but am sure that was a zillion times better. The movie has a very neat story with the worst possible screenplay. I have never rated p.vasu highly (except for mannan) and my opinion about him is getting worse.
Everyone who reads this blog should definitely have an idea about the story so I am not going to expand on it. However, below is what I felt was good / bad in the movie:
Good:
• Vadivelu comedy – good in parts – exceptional when he meets rajini for the 1st time.
• Rajini’s speech in the end
Bad:
• Worst ever possible screenplay
• Rajini comes to shoot in pasupathi’s town – the vans has posters of kuselan film unit – scenes are for annamalai part 2 and chandramukhi part 2 – doesn’t make any sense.
• A scene of chandramukhi is taken with rajini’s head being slit when the director (p.vasu – whenever I write his name in this blog I am cursing him) says cut. How on earth when a scene like that can be taken live?
• Vadivelu’s wife introduction was very vulgar
• Nayanthara – only dialogue in the movie is – Good Morning Sir – worst of all she has been generous in her skin show, vulgar dressing, worst ever camera angles, what not?
• Unnecessary characters – santhanam, santhana barathy, prabhu and a million others
• Prabhu – what the hell was he doing in the movie? Is there no other actor who could have played that miniscule role? Trust me the introduction scene of prabhu was one of the most hilarious scenes ever.
I wish I could cut p.vasu’s body parts one by one – from the toe nail to the head and torture him to death. A good movie spoilt to the core – thanks to the director.

So how long will this take?
For all Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar fans the magic number is 172 at the moment. Having seen Sachin all these years, breaking all the records that a cricketer can ever dream of, this has significance in itself. When Sachin gets past the 11,952 runs which is currently held by another genius the game as seen – Brian Charles Lara, he will hold all possible records that a batsman can. My only worry is over the last few years Tendulkar has kept the world waiting a long time for some of his records – his dismissal when on 90’s last year, the 35th test century (to become the player with most centuries) came a year after his 34th. So the big question now is how long will he take to get those 172 test runs needed to surpass Brian Charles Lara? Lets wait, watch and pray that he gets it as soon as possible. The greatest tennis match of all time
Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal - Wimbdledon 2008 - I must say this is one of the greatest matches I have witnessed alongside Pat Rafter vs Goran Ivanasevic - wimbledone 2001. I am a hardcore fan of Federer and I hoped / prayed that he won. In the end it was heartbreaking for me to see him lose. However, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal served up a match that defied everything that nature could throw at them. It was a most thrilling match, with Federer recovering from two sets down to force a fifth but he was eventually beaten in a near five-hour epic that was twice delayed by rain. I was happy in a way that the Federer fought till the last point and took it to 5 sets.
I thought the reason behind Federer's loss was, he could convert only one of 13 break points in the match. Incredible - World is indeed small !!!!
Its a small small world - a number of ppl have said it, there has been songs on it but I trust it now. Now, why do you I say that I believe in it - 'cos the most unbelievable incident happened today. Seems like, from the day I started writing blogs, a lot of incidents are happening in my life or there were always incidents and I have started realising as I recollect it while writing it down.
Now to the incident - I come back from a meeting and I have an RM (Reuters Messaging - similar to gtalk where you get to interact with your colleagues) from A******* . To me that was a surprise, 'cos although that person was from my department I never ever spoke to her. Then I thought it should be something to do with officially and replied. To my surprise her immediate question was "Do you know R****** from Mumbai", I was shocked - my immediate question was officially or personally (dumb question I must say but wanted to make sure) - she replied - it was personally. I was taken a back - cos I knew the person and she was very very close to me (still is - but just dont get to talk much now a days as she has moved to Mumbai). To add to the surprise, R***** was right there sitting next to A******* - later I came to know that R****** cousin is married to A*******.
It was a moment to cherish when I chatted with R******, its just that its been quite sometime and to talk to her on RM of all modes of communication was super cool. Its definitely a day to remember, a day when I can tell others - Its a small small world!!!!
